Alex Melvin
"I love the creativity in what I do — I love to create. I'm inspired and excited to see what I've accomplished at the end of the day."
A Richmond native, Alex worked at a boarding stable and for a tile contractor while studying at The University of Georgia. The
customer interaction and creativity he enjoyed as unique parts of both jobs would combine to build the foundation for his future
occupation. After graduating in 1992, he returned home and got a job with a small remodeling firm. Here, he developed his
talent — and his passion — for working with tile and stone, and also first worked with future business partner Bob Farinholt. Six
years later, Alex opened his own tile installation business. And in 2001, Bob and Alex realized their vision to provide exceptional
custom craftsmanship by joining forces to open Signature Renovation & Repair. Alex is currently president of the Central Virginia
chapter of NARI — the National Association of the Remodeling Industry — and has served on the board since 2006.
Bob Farinholt
"The power to restore something to its original beauty and function is truly rewarding. It's the part of my job that keeps me
interested, and always keeps me coming back for more."
Born and raised in Richmond, Bob got his start in carpentry in the late 1980s thanks to his family's enthusiasm for rebuilding
wooden boats. What originated as a hobby soon developed into a passion, and his vocation. Bob dedicated five years as an
apprentice honing a variety of types of carpentry skills, including the precision of trim carpentry. In the early 1990s Bob took his
trim carpentry expertise to work for a local remodeling firm, where he first worked with future business partner Alex Melvin. Over
the next decade, Bob steadily worked his way up to lead carpenter and project manager. Then, in 2001, Bob and Alex realized
their vision to provide exceptional custom craftsmanship by joining forces to open Signature Renovation & Repair.
